Introduction of the – SAE Vehicle Electrification Certification – Level 2

March 26, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Dr. Mark Quarto, Chief Technical Officer – Future Tech Auto LLC, will introduce you to the SAE Vehicle Electrification Certification – Level 2.

This certification is the result of five years of preparation through the NSF project grant – Northwest Engineering and Vehicle Technology Exchange (NEVTEX) Due # 1700708.

This session will focus on the Level 2 SAE Vehicle Electrification (VE) Certification will focus on high voltage powertrain, energy management, and power conversion systems. Light, Medium, and Heavy-Duty Hybrid and Electric vehicle systems utilize highly integrated systems that dependent on a balance of efficiency, driveability, and performance. Experience traditional vehicle systems does not transfer to analyzing, diagnosing, or servicing electrified high voltage vehicle system. Therefore, it is critical for those in the automotive education and service spaces to become fluent in VE systems and acquire the SAE certification as a method to communicate competence in this technology to the public and private sectors. The standards outcomes of the certification are designed to engender rigor and depth for those endeavoring to attain it, while providing a certification of competence.

Chris Quarto, BD/OD/MFG CN for Electrified Vehicle Systems, will introduce you to the resources that will prepare you for the certification.

Rich DeMary, SAE / Probitas, will illustrate what the certification process will look like for instructors and technicians.

Areas that the SAE Vehicle Electrification Certification – Level 2 will cover:

*   HV Battery Pack and Control Systems

*   Electric Transmissions and Drive Units

*   3-Phase Drive Motors and Generators

*   DC-DC Converters Systems

*   On-Board High Voltage Battery Charging Systems
