Biodiesel is a liquid fuel derived from vegetable oils, or animal fats, which consists of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids (or fatty acid methylesters). It has fueled diesel engines since they were invented by Rudolph Diesel in the late 1800’s.
Biodiesel is domestically produced, clean-burning and renewable. Compared to petroleum diesel, it’s a homerun. While the United States relies heavily on foreign import for our petroleum consumption, biodiesel is produced right at home and is used in the conventional diesel engines.
In other words, simply swap out the fuel and you can use the same vehicles and trucks you’re using now, only without the same harmful emissions. Not only that, but studies show it can even help with fuel lubricity, meaning your engines will run better, longer. Finally, biodiesel is safer to handle, store and transport—largely because it is significantly less combustible than petroleum diesel.
